Protocol Description

This is a companion study for leukemia or myelodysplasia research studies sponsored by the Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB). CALGB is a cooperative cancer treatment group funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) with a national network of medical centers, affiliated hospitals and private physicians.  The Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB), are attempting to better understand the causes of leukemia and myelodysplasia (a disease with abnormal bone marrow function), and to develop improved methods for the diagnosis and treatment of those diseases.  The purpose of this study is the preservation or storage of a small portion of patient blood, bone marrow, and a swab from the inside of the mouth for the purposes of DNA (genetic traits/disorders) testing. This material will be used for the study of leukemia or myelodysplasia by researchers.   In particular, the researchers are interested in studying particular molecules (small chemical components) in your blood, bone marrow and swabs from inside your cheek.  The exact molecules to be studied will change over time, and only the most likely to yield results will be chosen for investigation. 

Eligibility Criteria

Patients enrolled in a CALGB treatment study for leukemia or myelodysplasia
