CALGB 10001: A Phase II Trial of Sequential Chemotherapy, Imatinib Mesylate (Gleevec, STI571) (NSC # 716051, IND # 61135), and Transplantation for Adults with Newly Diagnosed Ph+ Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)
Protocol ID
Protocol Description
The purpose of this study is to find out what effects (good and bad) an investigational drug known as imatinib mesylate (Gleevec) or STI571, has on leukemia. Gleevec/ST1571 has been approved for use in patients diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), another type of leukemia that has the Ph chromosome, although its use in patients diagnosed with ALL is considered investigational, which means it has not been approved by the FDA for this use. The experimental portion of this research study involves the use of the new medicine Gleevec/ST1571in combination with standard chemotherapy and transplantation treatments for Ph+ ALL.
