Tissue Banking - Laryngeal and Tracheal Disease

Protocol ID

03.02.080

Protocol Description

This study involves collecting tissue samples to support current and future research on airway diseases, including respiratory papillomas. Samples will be obtained from tissue that is ordinarily discarded after surgery. These tissue samples will enable researchers at NSLIJHS and their collaborators to study factors involved in various diseases. The following are types of studies in which collected tissue samples may be used:

  • Identifying specific human papillomavirus (HPV) types and analyzing their functions
  • Analyzing cell and molecular changes
  • Growing cells obtained from tissue in the lab to identify causes and cures for particular diseases
  • Analyzing genes of the immune system to determine why the immune system does not prevent HPV-caused disease

Eligibility Criteria

Patients who are scheduled to undergo orthopedic surgery as part of their routine care.

Primary Investigator(s)

  • Bettie Steinberg, PhD
