Thrombosis - Antibody Study

Bridging Inflammation and Thrombosis:  Exploring the Effects of Antiphospholipid Antibodies and Tumor Necrosis Factor of Thrombosis

Protocol ID

04-029

Protocol Description

The goal of this research is to better understand the role of antiphospholipid antibodies in blood clotting (thrombosis). Patients with antiphospholipid antibody syndrome make antibodies that have been associated with an increased risk of thrombosis (stroke: blood clot in the brain; phlebitis: blood clot in the veins of the arms or legs). The way these antibodies cause thrombosis is unknown. The researchers performing this study will analyze blood samples taken from patients with antiphospholipid antibodies in order to examine how antiphospholipid antibodies affect blood clot formation.
