Acute Coronary Syndrome Study

The Kinetics of High Mobility Group Box-1 (HMGB1)  During Acute Coronary Syndromes. (GAC# 0138)

Protocol ID

06-099T

Protocol Description

Our objective is to evaluate substances that may be present in the blood during a heart attack where blood flow is diminished. Our aim is to observe the presence and levels of HMGB-1 in patients who are experiencing decreased blood flow to the heart.

Blood samples from patients who have had a heart attack and normal healthy individuals will be studied to measure these products, which are released by cells and have a specific effect on the way cells behave, communicate and work together. By comparing blood samples from heart attack patients and normal healthy individuals, we will try to find proteins in the blood that may lead to a heart attack.

It is hoped that the detection of this substance will help us improve the treatment of heart conditions in the future.
