Positron Emission Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Cognitive and Emotional Abnormalities in Patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Protocol Description

The purpose of this research is to find out more about how lupus affects the brain.  All people with lupus have autoantibodies.  Autoantibodies are proteins in the blood that attack different parts of the body.  The anti-NR2 antibody is an autoantibody that can hurt cells in the brain. This study is being conducted to determine the effects of the anti-NR2 antibody on brain function in people with lupus who have had disease for 2 years or less compared to people with lupus who have disease for 10 years or more. This may be important for future diagnosis and treatment of this disorder.
