Systemic Lupus Erythematosus - Antibody Study (07-081)
Role of the Antibody Against NR2 Glutamate Receptor in Cognitive Dysfunction in Patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
Protocol ID
Protocol Description
The purpose of this study is to learn if cognitive function (how well the brain works in terms of memory, concentration and problem solving) in lupus patients is related to the anti-NR2 autoantibody that is found in the blood of many lupus patients. We would like to determine if we can identify lupus patients who are at risk for experiencing a decline in their cognitive function in the future. To answer this question we have asked a group of lupus patients to perform a series of computerized tests over 2 years to see if there is a change in their test results over that time period. In order to see if the changes seen in their tests are real, we need to compare those test results to a group of individuals who are the same age and gender and who have had similar amounts of education.
