Psychosis - Early Detection/Prevention Study

Early Detection and Intervention for the Prevention of Psychosis

Protocol ID

07.04.075

Protocol Description

This research is being done to determine whether early intervention can prevent the onset of serious mental illness and whether it can improve social and role functioning in people at clinical high risk or in the very early stage of serious mental illness.

Early intervention consists of Family-aided Assertive Community Treatment (FACT). FACT includes a multifamily group, individual family therapy, support for school or work, and psychiatric medication, as needed. This treatment has been found to be helpful in reducing relapse and improving functioning in people in the early stages of serious mental illnesses, and we are testing whether it can be helpful in preventing these negative outcomes.
