Breast Cancer Study

NSUH 0373/DFCI  LOCAL # 07-199: Adjuvant Paclitaxel and Trastuzumab for Node-Negative HER2-Positive Breast Cancer

Protocol ID

08-038

Protocol Description

The purpose of this study is to find out what effect the postoperative combination of therapies; trastuzumab (herceptin) and paclitaxel (taxol) will have on breast cancer.  This combination of therapy has been used before in women with breast cancer that has spread to other organs, and in women with node-positive breast cancer, and has been shown to be effective and well tolerated.  We would like to now determine how effective this drug combination is when used in women with early stage breast cancer, as well as to better define the side effects of this treatment. In the future, this information may help both patients and doctors as they decide which medicines to use to treat cancer. Currently, there is no standard treatment for small HER2-positive node-negative breast cancer.
