Diagnostic Imaging Center Renamed in Honor of Mitchell A. Goldman, MD
LAKE SUCCESS, NY – The North Shore-LIJ Health System announced today it has renamed its Diagnostic Imaging Center to honor the memory and legacy of the late Mitchell A. Goldman, MD, former chairman of radiology at North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) and LIJ Medical Center.
The facility, part of North Shore-LIJ’s Center for Advanced Medicine at 450 Lakeville Road in Lake Success, was recently dedicated as the Mitchell A. Goldman, MD, Diagnostic Imaging Center in appreciation of his many contributions to the health system over the past 34 years.
Dr. Goldman, who passed away February 16 after a long illness, served as chairman of radiology for the past 12 years. He was a gifted radiologist, specializing in ultrasound, and a beloved physician and clinical leader known for his engaging personality and kind nature. His career at North Shore-LIJ dates back to 1976, when he joined the Radiology Department at NSUH after completing his residency and fellowship at McGill University in Montreal.
“Renaming the imaging center in Mitch’s honor is a fitting tribute to a man who devoted his life to medical excellence and innovation,” said Michael Dowling, president and chief executive officer of the North Shore-LIJ Health System. “He has been a role model for multitudes of radiology residents; his footprints are everywhere in the health system.”
More than 100 physicians, nurses, colleagues and close family members attended a recent memorial and renaming ceremony. “Mitch was consistently the same person – he was an individual of the highest moral and ethical character and demonstrated the highest clinical standards,” said Dennis Dowling, North Shore-LIJ’s regional executive director for physician and ambulatory network services, who began working with Dr. Goldman in 1976.
Jason Naidich, MD, associate chairman of ambulatory imaging, worked closely with Dr. Goldman in establishing the outpatient Diagnostic Imaging Center in 2006. “Dr. Goldman deeply cared about his patients and he served as an example for all us,” he said. “Dedicating the imaging center to Mitch’s memory allows his life’s work to live on, reminding us to always do our best.”
