IRB - Researcher Registration & Tutorials
Everyone involved in research with human subjects (investigators, coordinators, research assistants, etc.) must complete the Researcher Registration Form. This is a one time only requirement.
After the form is completed online, it should be printed, signed and faxed to 516-562-3105. All faxed copies will be kept on file at the Office of the IRB. Researchers should keep the original signed registration form with their other compliance documentation.

Researcher Education Revised 1/14/10
The North Shore-LIJ Health System uses the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) http://www.citiprogram.org to meet our federal human subject protections educational requirements.
All NSLIJHS clinical research investigators and staff are required to take the CITI program. CITI certification must be renewed every three years.
Procedure:
- If you are a new user (you have never registered with CITI before) please click here.
- If you completed the CITI program while you were affiliated with another institution, please click here to view a brief PowerPoint presentation for guidance.
- Go to http://www.citiprogram.org/
- Register, your participating institution is North Shore-LIJ Health System-New York
- "Affiliations": If you wish to use your training to meet requirements for more than one institution, after logging in, click on the link to "Affiliate with another institution." If the affiliated organizations require the same modules as NSLIJHS, you will only need to complete the modules once. The software will give you credit in each institution's curriculum.
- All Clinical Researchers must take the Basic Human Subjects (if they are taking the CITI program for the first time) or the Refresher Course (if they are renewing their CITI training) in the area most appropriate to their research:
- Biomedical
- Behavioral or
- Biomedical and Behavioral
It is highly recommended that clinical researchers also take the modules on Good Clinical Practice and ICH and the Responsible Conduct of Research. Both remain optional for now but may be required in the future.
One of the key benefits of this program is that course completion is transferable between member institutions with brief updates required each year. As a result, if you have transferred to NSLIJ from another CITI institution and/or are considering transferring to or collaborating with a CITI institution, you will have met the majority of your human subject protection educational requirements by completing this course.
In addition CME/CEU credits are available through the University of Miami for completion of the Human Subjects Protection Basic Course and for the Human Subjects Protection Refresher Course.
Please contact Hallie Kassan, MS, CIP (516-562-0439 or via e-mail at hkassan@nshs.edu) with any questions and concerns. Thank you for your cooperation and we look forward to continuing to work with you in the advancement of human subject research.
