North Shore-LIJ - Hofstra Medical School
North Shore-LIJ is partnering with Hofstra University to develop a school of medicine which will be the first new allopathic medical school established in New York since 1963. Hofstra and the health system will combine their respective strengths and expertise, each sharing responsibility for the medical school’s mission and success.
A uniquely strong foundation exists to offer an excellent medical educational experience when Hofstra’s academic infrastructure and North Shore-LIJ’s clinical and graduate medical education programs are combined with the extensive research conducted at The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research. The complementary strengths of the partners will permit North Shore-LIJ to create a new kind of medical school relationship, different from its current role as a medical school affiliate.
The target date for admission of the charter class, which will be approximately 40 students, is September of 2011, subject to receiving preliminary accreditation.
