RE: Children’s Hospital Renaming and Informed Consent for Research
DATE: April 6, 2010
The Health System has announced that the Children’s Hospital will now be known as the Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York (CCMC). You may have also heard that the Health System is pursuing a name change before the end of the year.
We recognize that there are many documents, including research consent forms, which will need to be changed to reflect the name changes in the coming months and we ask for your patience during this transition period. In order to smooth the transition we have approved use of a single 1 page addendum to be used in conjunction with research consent forms at the Cohen Children’s Medical Center. Click here for a copy of the addendum which is posted on the IRB website on the IRB Forms page.
The following plan will be implemented at this time:
- Investigators with existing clinical research studies enrolling subjects at the Cohen Children’s Medical Center and for which signed informed consent is required must utilize the Name Change from SCH to CCMC Addendum to Consent for Research in addition to their IRB approved informed consent form. All studies will be required to update research consent forms after the Health System name change is completed or if other changes are being made.
- Investigators proposing to conduct a new clinical research study seeking to enroll subjects from the Cohen Children’s Medical Center and for which signed informed consent will be required must utilize the correct name.
In order to minimize the number of consent versions in use for a specific study the NSLIJ IRB will not require that existing research consent forms be modified to reflect the name change of the Children’s Hospital until after the Health System name change takes effect.
This is truly an exciting time in the history of the health system. Please contact the IRB office at 516-562-3101 if you have any questions. We will keep you posted on new developments as they occur.
