Advancing Women in Science and Medicine (AWSM)

Women helping other women move forward

Advancing Women in Science and Medicine (AWSM) is a program initiated by Betty Diamond, MD, to advance the career opportunities of female scientists at The Feinstein Institute and to motivate female faculty to support one another. AWSM also enhances the visibility of the Institute by celebrating these scientists’ achievements.

The core initiatives of AWSM are in the following areas:

Career development
Recognition
Advocacy and education
Networking and mentoring

The 25-member group’s inaugural event in October 2011 was attended by about 150 people, including clinicians and administrators, along with community members. In order to heighten recognition of the program’s work, AWSM facilitates the nomination of its members for national and international awards.
