Welcome From Our President

Welcome to The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, the research enterprise of North Shore-LIJ Health System. The Feinstein Institute is a collaboration of creative thinkers who share a singular focus of advancing science to prevent disease and cure patients. Our more than 1,500 scientists and researchers have made important discoveries in many medical fields, including cancer, sepsis, inflammation, autoimmune disorders, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease and schizophrenia. As president of the Feinstein Institute, I work to empower imagination, remove barriers to original thought and support pioneering discovery.

I am a neurosurgeon by training, and I study the immune system and diseases caused by inflammation. I have headed the Laboratory of Biomedical Science since 1992 and served as Chief Executive Officer and President of the Feinstein Institute since 2005. To me, nothing is more fulfilling than meeting a patient who has benefited from a discovery made in the lab. This experience of inventing a treatment and transforming someone’s life for the better is not only incredibly gratifying, but it is also a stark reminder that successful inventions require more than just the idea; they require solidarity, tenacity, dedication and time.

I am proud to be a part of the Feinstein Institute. It is a unique organization that breathes into those of us who work here a sense of responsibility to innovate and grow with an eye on future cures. My colleagues and I consider it an honor and a privilege to foster an environment of collaboration that enables us to follow our scientific paths toward discoveries and cures. We are driven to do this because it is essential to improving the health and happiness of future societies. No matter how long it takes. This is why we go to work each day.

Sincerely,
Kevin J. Tracey, MD
