Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine, established in 2008, is a unique partnership between the North Shore-LIJ Health System and Hofstra University. It is the first new medical school in the New York metropolitan area in more than 35 years.
The School of Medicine is built upon the strong clinical and graduate medical education programs of the North Shore-LIJ Health System and the robust research conducted at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research. The medical students also utilize the health system’s Center for Learning and Innovation, the Patient Safety Institute and the Bioskills Education Center. These three state-of-the-art training facilities include the latest operative technologies, human simulation/robotic laboratories and high-tech research space.
In August 2011, the School of Medicine welcomed its inaugural class. In 2013, the school completed the development of a 65,000-square-foot expansion of its medical education center, doubling the size of its facility on the Hofstra University campus.
