How to Pick a Research Mentor and Research Project

This 1-hour workshop is presented each year to open the season for physicians who expect to do research while completing post-graduate clinical training. All who are interested are welcome to attend. Students will be asked what they are looking for in a mentor and in a project for this interactive workshop. It is suggested that each student bring in 1-3 research ideas for discussion.

This course will include the following:

  • Provide counseling on a workable timetable and review of why students should begin their research projects in the very near future.
  • Use the workshop’s discussion to grow ideas.
  • Discussion on how to promote future scholarly publications.

At the end of this course students will be able to:

  • Wisely pick a research project.
  • Learn how to seek and enlist an appropriate mentor
  • Identify the career goals of doing research appropriate for them at this time.

Target Audience: Fellows, Residents, Researchers, clinicians, research professionals, and others interested in learning more about research.
