Emmelyn Kim, MA, MPH, CCRA, CHRC
AVP, Research Compliance & Privacy Officer
Emmelyn Kim serves as the Research Compliance and Privacy Officer for research at the Northwell Health. She oversees the clinical and non-clinical research compliance programs including: quality assurance and monitoring, audits and investigations, HIPAA privacy and security, FDA inspections and the External Interest (Conflict of Interest) compliance review for research. Emmelyn evaluates research compliance risk throughout the organization to enhance research programs and inform policy. She has over 17 years of experience working in research site management and regulatory compliance. She began her career in the field working as a research coordinator for NIH and industry sponsored cardiovascular and diabetes studies at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine and Joslin Diabetes Center, and was also involved in minority health outreach initiatives prior to joining Northwell Health. She has a masters in psychology, concentrating in health, from Boston University; a masters in public health from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, and is certified in healthcare research compliance and as a clinical research associate.

JiYoung Choi, CCRP
Research Compliance Manager
JiYoung Choi is involved in auditing research throughout Northwell Health for quality assurance and improvement, and providing education to the investigative community. She has over 10 years of experience working in the pharmaceutical industries and hospital institutions focusing on auditing, training, and SOP management in GMP and GCP settings. She has also worked internationally in Korea on overall management of quality assurance in the clinical research division.
Stephen Frattini, DVM
Pre-Clinical Research Compliance Manager
Dr. Stephen Frattini is involved in auditing and reviewing preclinical and laboratory based research throughout Northwell Health for quality assurance and improvement, and providing education to the investigative community. He obtained his veterinary degree from Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2010, where he focused on disease management of aquatic animals, specifically, fish and invertebrates. His main project dealt with the means of viral transmission, infectivity and epidemiology of Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia Virus (VHSV) during a Great Lakes outbreak. Steve has spent the past four years at Northwell Health working in the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research as a Post Doctoral Research Fellow working to elucidate the interactions of the central nervous system and immune system during systemic disease such as lupus, sepsis and hypoxia.
Alison Powell, LATG
Alison Powell is involved in auditing and reviewing preclinical and laboratory based research throughout Northwell Health for quality assurance and improvement, and providing education to the investigative community. She was introduced to medical research in 2010, shortly after graduating from Manhattan College, when she began working at Weill Cornell Medical College/Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center’s Research Animal Resource Center program as an animal husbandry technician. After working with a wide array of species and focusing on aquatics, she then moved on to managing transgenic mouse colonies at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center’s Mouse Genetics Core Facility. She returned to the Research Animal Resource Center where she was involved in research animal education and quality assurance. She is working on obtaining her MA in Biology.
Hamangi Patel, MSW, CCRP
Research Compliance Manager
Hamangi Patel is involved in auditing research throughout Northwell Health for quality assurance and improvement, and providing education to the investigative community. She began her career in research at Children’s Hospital Boston while earning a B.S. degree from Northeastern University. Hamangi then went on to earn a MSW concentrating in healthcare research while working at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, where she focused on expanding the clinical research program, offering patients the opportunity to enroll in clinical trials within their community. She has worked internationally in London on phase I-III clinical research studies.

Research Compliance Manager
Scott Beardsley is involved in evaluating the external financial interest disclosures for research, proposing appropriate management plans, and triage of cases to the Conflicts of Interests Committee when appropriate. He is also involved in auditing and monitoring for quality assurance and improvement in research, and providing education to the investigative community. Scott joined Northwell Health after six years working as an IRB analyst for the Columbia University Medical Center. He began his career in Research Administration in 2005 as an IRB analyst at Roswell Park Cancer Center in Buffalo, NY. Prior to that he worked as a Research Assistant in Buffalo at the Women and Children’s Hospital and the Erie County Medical Center Emergency Department.
Research Compliance Analyst
Gerry Kassoff is an Analyst involved in reviewing and evaluating external financial interest disclosures for research and provides general compliance support. Gerry has been with Northwell Health for over thirty five years. Prior to her current position, she worked at the Office of the IRB as a coordinator/specialist involved in various activities to facilitate timely submission and review of IRB protocols.
Sharon Hochman, MA
Clinical Research Monitor
Sharon Hochman is involved in providing monitoring services for FDA regulated clinical research at Northwell Health. Sharon joins the health system with over 10 years of experience working within the pharmaceutical industry working on both sponsored and investigator initiated trials, in which she managed the trials from the initial submission until closure. She has her Masters Degree in Health Administration.
Ji-Eun Kim, RPh, PhD
Dr. Ji-Eun Kim reviews the management of investigational drugs in clinical research and provides operational consultation and education. In addition, she provides regulatory support for Investigational New Drug Application (IND) and participates in audits. Prior to joining Northwell Health in 2013, she worked in Research Pharmacy at the NYPH-Columbia University Medical Center and the NYU Langone Medical Center. She has a PhD in Biological Engineering with an emphasis in Applied Biosciences and both a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy.
