What should be submitted into the eRA portal?

All human subjects research/clinical research needs to be submitted for review through the eRA portal.

I am not using the Northwell Health IRB to review my study. Do I still need to submit an application through the eRA portal?

Yes, the eRA portal encompasses institutional and IRB approval. All human subjects research being done at the health system needs Institutional and IRB approval to begin. To obtain institutional approval, you need to submit an application through the eRA portal.

BRANY will be doing the IRB review for my study. Do I still need to submit an application through the eRA portal?

My study was originally opened prior to eRA rolling out. What happens if I need to submit a modification, continuing approval application, or reportable event?

Those submissions can all come through the eRA portal. Your study information should be available in the portal. If you do not see your study profile in the portal, please contact the Office of the Human Research Protection Program at 516-321-2100 or irb@northwell.edu and let us know.

What do I do to create a new study?

Login to the eRA portal and choose “my human subjects” on the left hand side. Then click on “create new” and the application will open.

How do I find my studies that are already open/approved?

After you click on “my human subjects”, click on “show/list” and all studies that you are associated with should appear on the list.

I am a study coordinator and would like to submit an application, but the system won’t let me submit. What should I do?

Make sure your PI has delegated you as someone who is allowed to. This can be done by the PI editing his/her profile.
