Chemical Safety

Chemical hazards and toxic substances present a wide range of health and physical hazards. The Environmental Health & Safety Office developed the Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) to provide guidance and general safety practices for the use of chemicals in research. The Laboratory Standard, set by OSHA, requires that the CHP set forth procedures, equipment, PPE and work practices capable of protecting workers from the hazards presented by chemicals used in the laboratory.
