Panel Discussion about Diversity in the Sciences and Clinical Research
In celebration of Diversity Awareness and Health Literacy Month, The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research and Northwell Health’s Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Health Literacy will host an event to discuss the importance of diversity in medical research and clinical trials.
The speakers for this event will be:
- Christine Metz, PhD, director for the Laboratory of Medicinal Biochemistry at the Feinstein Institute, who will present “Introduction and historical perspective of the importance of diversity at the lab bench, in the workplace, in clinical research/clinical trials”
- Jason Sheltzer, PhD, fellow at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, who will discuss “Why women are not hired into the ‘big’ labs”
- Negin Hajizadeh, MD, PhD, associate professor of medicine for Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, who will present “A case study: the experience and the barriers in enrolling diverse populations into studies due to translation costs”
