The mission of the Office of Research Policy and Training (RPT) is to evaluate and manage the development, maintenance and delivery of Northwell Health research policies and centralized research training programs and learning opportunities to meet regulatory, industry, and institutional standards and requirements and align with Northwell Health and the research enterprise’s goals and business needs.

Research Policy Administration: RPT works with subject matter experts (SMEs) and stakeholders to develop, maintain and deliver Northwell Health policies related to research to meet regulatory, industry, and institutional standards that govern the safe, responsible, and ethical conduct of research. This office serves as the representative for the research community and functions in an advisory role on various corporate committees, work groups, and task forces that are involved in the development and implementation of Northwell Health policies and related processes. Research Learning and Training Administration: RPT collaborates with SMEs and stakeholders to provide the research communities we support with centralized high-quality, continuous learning and training opportunities to meet regulatory, industry, and institutional requirements and professional development growth. Our services include support for required research training administration, as well as collaborating with subject matter experts to develop, manage and deliver centralized training programs and learning opportunities to support the needs of the organization’s research communities. Many of our classes offer continuing medical education (CME) and continuing education unit (CEU) credits and are available as in-person and online classes.

- Required Training – There are different training requirements depending on the type of research you work on – human subjects research, animal research, and laboratory research. Required training can be in the form of online and in-person classes. The CITI Program and iLearn are used to deliver and satisfy many of the training requirements. Each research program has different training requirements which are outlined in the program’s policies and procedures.
