The Center for Comparative Physiology is part of the institution’s animal care and use program. The program is registered with the New York State Department of Health and the United States Department of Agriculture, and the animal facility undergoes annual inspections by these agencies. The program has been fully accredited by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care, International since 1989 indicating the program not only meets the minimum standards required by law, but also achieves excellence in animal care and use.

We are committed to the highest level of animal care and quality service in order to facilitate quality research that leads to the cure of disease in both humans and animals.
The CCP Facility
The Center for Comparative Physiology (CCP) is the main animal facility for the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research (FIMR). The CCP provides veterinary care, technical services, diagnostic services and education and training of research personnel. The CCP veterinary technicians are available to provide investigators with research and procedural support.
The staff of the CCP includes a director, facility supervisors, a training specialist, licensed veterinary technicians and certified animal care technicians. An attending veterinarian, board-certified in laboratory animal medicine, oversees the animal care and use program.
CCP Orientation, Training and Facility Access
The following are mandatory requirements to receive card access to the CCP. These components must be met prior to card access being granted:
- Completion of animal program participation requirements
- Approval on animal protocol/amendment
- Facility orientation and mandatory animal user training
After completion of the animal research program participation requirements and obtaining IACUC approval to participate in animal research, study personnel must attend CCP facility orientation, and also schedule training session(s) with the CCP training specialist.
